Is there a specific code to add HTML in blogger and wordpress?

I am trying to add some HTML banners to my blogger and wordpress site, but when I try to embed the HTML, only the code is visible instead of the banner. Is there a specific code which should be prefixed/added? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I thank everyone in advance.
